Join millions at 'No Kings' protest
At gatherings big and small; in cities and towns; on street
corners, campuses, bridges and town squares; in parks, train stations, city
halls and more—AFT members will join with allies nationwide on Oct. 18 for a
“No Kings” day of action even bigger than the one we held in June. Millions of
people are coming together to reclaim our democracy, denouncing Trump’s
authoritarian power grab and peacefully embracing the power of the people to
demand dignity, affordability and opportunity for all. Here’s how you and

University
loyalty pledge is ‘entirely corrupt’ When the Trump
administration demanded “loyalty oaths” to force colleges and universities
(including the University of Virginia, above) to support the president
unconditionally, top leaders at the AFT and the American Association of
University Professors called the move what it is: “entirely corrupt.” The offer
of preferential treatment for institutions that court government favor “stinks
of favoritism, patronage, and bribery in exchange for allegiance to a partisan
ideological agenda,” said AFT President Randi Weingarten and AAUP President

America, we have no kings. But day
after day, Trump becomes even more of a wannabe dictator with
his deployments of ICE and the National Guard around the country, and Deputy
Chief of Staff Stephen Miller was even caught saying that he had complete,
unrestricted power on the matter. He
was wrong. Power still belongs to the people, and it’s time to
show it by coming together in numbers they can’t ignore. This Saturday, millions of people will be

Just this summer, Trump has used the military to occupy major U.S. cities,
intimidate political opponents, and run cover for a mass deportation campaign
that is leaving communities in fear. Trump’s
efforts to weaponize our military against the people are inflammatory,
dangerous, and dictatorial. Fortunately, we’re about to face a critical chance
to push back. In a matter of days,
Congress will be voting on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a
must-pass funding bill that sets the budget for the Pentagon, which is
currently overseeing the deployments of armed federal troops to our cities and
towns. . . . [Congress

We need lawmakers to fight back against authoritarianism at
every possible step, and that has to include REJECTING the NDAA. One
of the surefire ways they’ll be compelled to do just that? Hearing from droves
