Dick, today [June 20, 2024] is UNITED NATIONS World Refugee Day – a day to remember
all who have had to flee their homes in search of safety. . . .
In Gaza, AFSC has been at the forefront of efforts to
bring humanitarian relief, thanks to the generosity of caring people like you.
From Sudan to the U.S.-Mexico border and in many other communities, your
support makes a critical difference. . . . When you give, you help:
Provide
humanitarian relief in Gaza: Your generosity helps provide
food, water, blankets, activities for children, and more. Our team has served
over 600,000 people since October.
Support immigrants
to the U.S.: Your kindness helps communities mobilize to welcome and
support immigrants at the U.S.-Mexico border and across the country. Our legal
team helps about 2,000 immigrants resolve their cases each year.
Advocate for a
just, lasting peace in Sudan: Your donation supports local,
regional, and international efforts to stop the war and end the famine, which
are impacting about 25 million people.
And these are just a few examples!

Behind closed doors, the White House and
Congress continue to negotiate major changes to border and immigration law. An
ACLU expert breaks down one particularly harmful proposal. Read more.
The Democrats’ hard-right turn on
immigration is a disaster in every way: Last week, Senate Democrats threw their support behind a bill that would
allow the president to shut down the border. The bill would also have doubled
the budget for immigration enforcement. That's despite hundreds of migrants
dying every year trying to reach the United States. But this inhumane approach
to migration isn't new. The U.S. strategy of “prevention through deterrence”
has been going on for decades, said AFSC’s Pedro Rios. (The Nation) AFSC 2-17-24.
