“Shell In Court Over Its 'Dire'
Exacerbation Of The Climate Crisis.” The
Canary. PopularResistance.org (4-3-24). Shell squared off against seven
environmental groups in a Dutch appeals court on Tuesday 2 April, with climate
activists accusing the multinational oil giant of failing to implement a
landmark 2021 judgement – worsening the climate crisis. Judges at the
Hague District Court ruled three years ago that Shell must reduce its carbon
emissions by 45% by 2030. They said it was contributing to the “dire” effects
of climate change. That ruling was a historic victory for climate change
campaigners. It was the first time a company had been made to align its policy
with the 2015 Paris climate change accords. -more-

“Stewarding the Land in
California’s Central Valley.” AFSC Weekend Reading (4-6-24).
More than one-quarter of all food grown in the U.S. comes from
California’s Central Valley. It’s also a region where, for decades, immigrants
and refugees of diverse backgrounds have been building a small farming
movement. Earlier this year, AFSC brought together these farmers to discuss
what it means to be stewards of the land [as climate change increases weather
extremes]. Read more from AFSC’s Myrna Martinez Nateras.
“Phoenix Passes Ordinance Giving
Workers Protection From Extreme Heat.” Cristen Hemingway Jaynes, EcoWatch. PopularResistance.org
(4-3-24). A historic new law in
Phoenix, Arizona, will provide thousands of outdoor workers in the hottest city
in the country with protections from extreme heat. -more- [This must become
a national municipal practice. But we
must not allow the necessary millions of local adaptations to distract us from
the continued need of mitigation\prevention: the fossil fuel companies continue
producing ff and promoting it via advertising, lobbying, and many other
instruments of corporate HARMS. –D]
