"Peace in Ukraine – Say NO to Endless U.S. Wars” MARCH 18

Dear friends,

Next weekend, Veterans For Peace is joining up with a large coalition of peace and justice organizations for actions demanding "Peace in Ukraine – Say NO to Endless U.S. Wars” and “Fund People's Needs, Not the War Machine.” The event culminates in a demonstration at the White House on March 18th which coincides with the 20th anniversary of the criminal U.S. invasion of Iraq. Knowing the devastating and lasting consequences of war on the people of Iraq and communities across the globe, we are reminded of the urgent need to work towards a world without war and militarism.

Dear Peace Friends,  3-12-23

We really need help promoting our upcoming antiwar peace events on the U of A campus.  Are any of you still University of Arkansas students that strongly dislike war & strongly care about peace?  Or, do you know any such UA students that would be interested in helping us on campus?

We need help promoting our monthly No More War Peace Protests calling for No Nuclear War with Russia or China.  We must remind the public that Mutually Assured Destruction means Nobody Wins!  We are also beginning to plan for a roundtable or panel discussion on the Ukraine war & more, and will need help promoting that.

Our next monthly No More War Peace Protest is on March 25th at 11 A.M. in front of the Washington County Courthouse in Fayetteville.   Here is the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/732167408357126

For this next protest, we are adding an additional special focus to include peace for Palestine, so this month's title is No More War from Palestine to Ukraine, since that war has recently faced a significant escalation in Huwara, occupied Palestine.

Thank You & Hope to See You Soon,

Abel Tomlinson

ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT
Novel into Film.

Note from Art 3-12-23:   “It’s up for an Academy Award, which could come soon.  If it wins one, it will be widely shown here and elsewhere.  Also, it’s available on Netflix for viewing at home, I think.  You can see the trailer simply by searching on the title and then clicking on the preview.   It gives a good sense of the film.“

Remarque’s novel (1928) is famous for conveying the effects on young men of war’s terror,
including PTSD when they return home.  In 1930, the book was made into its first and very successful film.  The trailer of the new film and its nomination for an Academy Award suggests it might surpass the first two.  The Ukraine War with its atrocious bombings and sufferings of soldiers (and civilians) is a good time to read the book and see the film.  A critical mass of people must oppose wars, if we are to end them. The novel can be ordered at B&N and Pearl’s ( (479) 527-6984), and several versions are available at UAF’s Mullins Library.  --Dick

“All Quiet on the Western Front,” directed by Edward Berger, won four Oscars (on nine nominations), picking up the trophies for international feature, cinematography (James Friend), original score (Volker Bertelmann) and production design (Christian M. Goldbeck, Ernestine Hipper). The film — a grim, disquieting adaptation of the famous World War I novel — had dominated the U.K.’s BAFTA Awards with a record-breaking seven wins, including best film, director (Berger), adapted screenplay, cinematography, sound, original score and non-English language film.  –Abel.
