Taking Legal Action to
Challenge U.S. Atrocities
Since the end of the
Cold War, the world has witnessed an unprecedented proliferation of sanctions
regimes, particularly by the United Nations Security Council, the European
Union, and the United States. This is due in part to the collapse of the Soviet
Union, which ended the deadlock between superpowers at the Security Council.
Over the past few decades, sanctions were slowly reconfigured from war time
weapons into peacetime policy instruments. In order for this effort to
materialize, policymakers, legal scholars, and government officials campaigned
to legitimate sanctions as a lawful weapon to punish nations who refuse to
submit to the United States and Europe.
The International People’s Tribunal on U.S.
Imperialism: Sanctions, Blockades, and Economic Coercive Measures approaches economic coercive measures as
inherently violent, designed to maintain economic inequality, continue the
theft of wealth from the Global South, and preserve racial hierarchy in the
international system. Such measures are structurally incapable of reform, and
cannot incorporate humanitarian concerns. The Tribunal is a collective effort
to build systems of accountability—rooted in global cross-movement
solidarity—both within and outside of the law, to challenge the violence of
imperialism through sanctions. We interrogate sanctions not from the
perspective of those who enforce them, but from the perspective of those most
impacted by them, namely the peoples of Asia, Africa, and South America.

The Merchants of Death
War Crimes Tribunal will hold accountable —
through testimony of witnesses — U.S. weapons manufacturers
who knowingly produce and sell products which attack and kill not
only combatants but non-combatants as well. These manufacturers may have
committed Crimes Against Humanity as
well as violated U.S. Federal criminal laws. The Tribunal will hear the
evidence and render a verdict.

Lockheed's HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery
Rocket System) made in Camden has "been key to the
turnaround in Ukraine, no doubt about it," said retired U.S. Army Gen. Wesley Clark of Little Rock in an
interview last week. The former NATO
Supreme Allied Commander, now strategic adviser, still has working ties to
Ukraine. He had just returned from the annual Yalta European Strategy meeting
in Kyiv. HIMARS serves as "a
substitute for the Ukrainian Air Force," Clark said. The missiles are
satellite guided with a 200-pound explosive warhead that travels about 50
miles, he said. It's accurate within about 10 feet, military experts say….
Bernie Sanders has a new book: It’s Ok to Be Angry About Capitalism. His
subject is US economics, but he inevitably links our economic system to our
foreign policy. For example, “real
politics” refers to the struggle against “uber-capitalism” by which a few US
citizens enrich themselves. “Real
politics is about understanding that the economic elites will never support
policies that threaten their wealth and power” (263). And the
Pentagon-Corporate-Congressional-Executive-Mainstream Media complex generates
trillions of dollars of profit for those elites. “Clearly, we need revolutionary changes in
how we approach the needs of our children and young adults. We cannot continue spending almost $800
billion a year for the military, provide massive tax breaks for the rich and
multinational corporations, and then claim that we are too poor to adequately
meet the needs of our children and their parents (272).
The US and NATO are using the war as a pretext
to vilify and destabilize Russia, while they take over gas markets in Europe.
In so doing, they have deceived the people of the US and Canada, committed war
crimes, displaced millions of people, committed an ecocide in which whales, dolphins and other marine
mammals are tortured and killed; and made bad actors like arms dealers incredibly rich. They have
set the scene for World War III and revived the possibility of nuclear disaster.

Zelensky & Nuclear War:
In stark contrast to
the mass media cultivated image of Ukraine President Zelensky as a heroic
freedom fighter, Zelensky has repeatedly called for NATO-USA to enter total war
with Russia, which would mean nuclear WW3 & threatens all our lives.

escalating conflict between the USA & Russia, and the danger of nuclear
war, and asked bluntly, “Are we all going to die?” I told her we hope not and many people are
working hard for peace to prevent that from happening.
