WHAT CAN WE DO? 

     People ask: What can I as a lone individual do to oppose nuclear war effectively?  I know a nuclear war will kill and wound millions, destroy the physical structures that make civilization possible, draw money away from the survivors,  even destroy human civilization and eradicate most species.  But what can we do?   

     Many of us are at work to save us already.  And we must persist and not lose hope.  But we must also, each of us, do more, to counter the warmakers and  profitmakers who ceaselessly  bully and bomb.      Most of us can be better informed.  Dig deeper into our wars and preparations for wars.  Understand that wars and preparations for wars often arise over disagreements as to the truth of the past.  Who started what?  Who started WWII in the Pacific?  Was the Pearl Harbor attack provoked?  This  history study, this reality-seeking is within our power.    

        Share your discoveries with others.  Tell neighbors, friends wherever.  Seek association.   Join effective organizations working to abolish nuclear weapons.   Push all of the organizations you belong to.  Contact your representatives vigorously.  There’s no time to play now. 

  All of these actions will help individuals find direction; stiffen the spine; and give hope.   Anyone reading this anthology already believes we can influence the future.  Do it now.   –Dick
