GAZA in The Nation
The December 18, 2023 number provides five articles entirely or partly about the eradication of Gaza and demands for a ceasefire.

D. D.  Guttenplan (for The Nation).  “Stop the War.”  “An immediate cease-fire remains the essential first step…”
Mohammed El-Kurd.  “The Right to Speak for Ourselves.”  “Palestinians are denied the freedom to tell our own story.”
Atef Abu Saif.  “A Month in Gaza.”   “Life and death under the bombardment.”
Spencer Ackerman.  “Forever Wars. The ‘rules based international order’ is all about US hegemony.”
Elie Mystal.  “Biden on the Brink.”   The “Trump would be worse” argument isn’t attractive to Biden’s supporters who oppose his Israel-Palestine policies.

 

Three books on Israel-Palestinians 2000-2021: a history of hope not even yet destroyed as Gaza is being obliterated 2023, but the contrast of Kaufman-Lacusta’s title with Halper’s --from plans for two states to one, of increasing oppression by Israel and increasing desperation by the Palestinians, from nonviolent coexistence to the fight of their lives-- encapsulates the sorrowful history .    Dick’s notes.

Maxine Kaufman-Lacusta.  Refusing to Be Enemies: Palestinian and Israeli Nonviolent Resistance to the Israeli Occuption.  2011.   (But the interviews which constitute much of the book were gathered 2003-07.)   The title cries out the great hope felt by Palestinians and many Israelis in 2011.  Glance at the bios of the distinguished contributors from Palestine, Canada, Israel, and around the world.

Mazin Qumsiyeh.  Popular Resistance in Palestine: A History of Hope and Empowerment.   2011.  While teaching in the US, Prof. Qumsiyeh (come-see-ya) (Tennessee, Duke, Yale) visited OMNI twice in his Wheels of Justice bus travelling the USA telling the Palestinian story (a difficult task against the US-Israeli/AIPAC propaganda machine).    Later he returned to the West Bank to teach biology and peace at Bethlehem Univ.

Jeff Halper.  Decolonizing Israel, Liberating Palestine: Zionism, Settler Colonialism, and the Case for One Democratic State.  2021.  Part I “Zionism as Settler Colonial Project”; Part II “Three Cycles of Zionist Colonial Development”; Part III “Decolonizing Zionism, Liberating Palestine.”
