Right Wing, the Media, and ACORN

RIGHT WING AND MEDIA ALLEGATIONS OF ACORN “VOTER FRAUD”
Michael Schudson and Julia Sonnevend, “In ACORN’s Shadow,” Columbia Journalism Rev. (Nov. Dec. 2010): The authors report on a study by Peter Dreier and John Martin in Perspectives on Politics (Sept. 2010) of 647 stories on ACORN during 2007-08, and concludes that ACORN’s alleged voter fraud “was absurdly hyped for partisan advantage; the national media were steamrolled into promoting…a ‘disingenuous controvery’; and ACORN twisted in the wind.” “…the national news media were ‘easily permeated’ by conservatives’ anti-ACORN accusations.” "The find that the media were taken in all too easily by a very effective group of 'opinion entrepreneurs' largely indifferent to facts or fairness."
