Dick,
Danger Season—the period between May and October when the United States and its
Caribbean territories experience their worst climate impacts—is here in full
force. In recent weeks, communities in Texas, North Carolina, and New Mexico
have been ravaged by climate-accelerated extreme weather events. The
devastation is truly heartbreaking.
In the face of disasters
like these, agencies like the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are critical in
saving lives. But the Trump administration's ongoing attacks on these very
agencies, from forcing out Meteorologists-in-Charge to firing first responders,
are leaving us more vulnerable than ever before.
The science is clear:
climate change is accelerating rapidly, promising more frequent and intense
extreme weather events. As
the federal government [Trump Admin.] undermines our ability to forecast
extreme weather, respond to disasters, and plan for future risks, UCS work
is more vital than ever. Our team is fighting to uphold climate science,
support frontline communities, and hold decisionmakers accountable. . . .
Thank you for sticking
with us.

OF INDUSTRIAL AGRICULTURE:
How a Few Giant Corporations Came to Dominate the Farm Sector and Why It
Matters. MIT P, 2023. ECOWATCH.
The
products that farmers must buy—from seeds and fertilizers to tractors and
combines and more—are controlled by a handful of giant corporations that
utterly dominate the market. Clapp examines the forces that enabled this
extreme concentration of power and the entrenchment of industrial agriculture,
illuminating how corporate power has driven the “lock-in” of industrial
agriculture, despite all its known social and ecological costs.
