REMEMBERING TOKYO, MARCH 10, 1945

On March 10 in 1945, the US abandoned "the last rules of warfare against civilians” when over 300 B-29 bombers "drop close to half a million incendiary bombs on sleeping Tokyo." Around 100,000 people are "scorched, boiled and baked to death," according to the attack's architect, Gen. Curtis LeMay. The attack was "the single largest mass killing of World War II, dwarfing even the destruction of the German city of Dresden on Feb. 13, 1945."
