 SHRINKING BIODIVERSITY
UN Global Biodiversity Assessment 1,140 pages.   Google replied to my query regarding diversity:  “The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) estimates that at least 157,100 species are threatened with extinction, including more than 44,000 that are endangered.”    Extinctions are increasing and more rapidly.

Two items from Climate and Capitalism 2024.
Illusions of Climate Technology

Even before 1.5 degrees, climate disasters are intensifying — and yet mainstream climate policies are based on surrender, on the assumption the best we can do is overshoot the target and cool things down later, using unproven and unknown technologies. In the meantime, the fossil fuel industry swims in the largest profits ever made. Malm and Carton show how this outrageous view came to dominate climate negotiations, and lays out the stakes for the climate struggle in the years ahead.

Hurricanes accelerate

Peter Sinclair.   “Basic physics explains why storms are getting stronger.”  October 20, 2024.  This is Not Cool, October 18, 2024

Climate is not just changing, it HAS changed. Historical assumptions no longer hold.

After the last three weeks, it should be clear to everyone that hurricanes and storms in a climate-altered world are different and much more dangerous threats than what humanity has dealt with historically. . . .  MORE
Basic physics describes the factors that are turbocharging storms in a warmer world.
First, a warming atmosphere holds more moisture, which is latent energy for storms. Hot ocean waters are also like gasoline for hurricanes. . . .     https://climateandcapitalism.com/2024/10/20/basic-physics-explains-why-storms-are-getting-stronger/#comment-161607
