I’m
not only a climate activist — I’m also a cancer survivor, twice over now. I realize
I’m lucky to have had amazing doctors and nurses, and grateful to live in a
time in which so much progress has been made in researching this awful illness.
Nevertheless,
cancer has become an epidemic: the National Cancer Institute expects 40.5%
of people will develop it in their lifetimes. That means it's almost certain
that somebody each of us knows and loves will be impacted by this terrible
disease — and this is no mere coincidence.
Not
when the EPA keeps finding cancer-causing chemicals derived from oil, coal, and
gas in our air, our food, our furniture, our clothes, our cooking utensils —
and as a result, in us. This research indicates that fossil fuel reliance and
the (corporations profiting from it) are driving both of these crises plaguing
our planet.
In
short, oil, gas, and coal are making people and the planet SICK.
And this multifaceted tragedy won’t stop killing us unless we take urgent
action to end it first.
That’s
why this Earth Day, I’m standing with a 100% independent, 3.5 million-strong
grassroots network using creative confrontation to expose climate culprits,
promote solutions, and achieve the transformative change that can and will
bring about the healthy, livable future we all deserve. If you’re ready to

inspire us to act to end the burning of our planet for the sake of corporate
profit, and inspire us to sow the seeds and nurture the harvest of a world, an
Earth, of Love and Justice. For love, as the Song of Songs teaches us, is
strong as death — if we embrace You.

Five times in the history
of life on Earth the corals have perished, swept from the board by conditions
hostile to nearly all life. Each time, it has taken them millions of years to
evolve anew. Each mass death of corals has been accompanied by the mass deaths
of most other species, on land and at sea.

Corals are the traffic
light that warns of planet-wide catastrophe ahead. And the light is glaring
red.
Like the wildfires
searing the world’s forests and grasslands, like the vanishing of insects,
birds and large mammals the corals are another unambiguous signal that humans
are riding a runaway train to our own ultimate destruction. Yet our
fossil-fuelled governments and corporations heap coals into the engine, keep
down their heads and deliberately ignore onrushing disaster.
That the sixth Great Death of corals is now
upon us is plain from the evidence piling up around the world. The U.S.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Coral Reef Watch has warned
the world is now in its fourth global cycle of bleaching since 1998—an ominous crescendo. . . .MORE click on title
These informed voices go unheeded as the crisis unfolds. The corals are telling
us our time on Earth may well be up, if we do not heed the warnings they
provide. They pose an even more profound question: are human still intelligent
enough to survive… or not? Julian

“‘Funeral For Nature’ Taking Place Globally This Weekend”

‘Funeral for Nature‘ will take place throughout the streets of Bath on Saturday
20 April to mark the devastating decline of the natural world in the lead up to
Earth Day on 22 April, an annual event which engages up to a billion people
around the world each year. The Funeral for Nature procession includes 400 Red
Rebels dressed in their distinctive red outfits and hundreds of mourners in
black. They will be accompanied by drummers playing a single funeral beat as
they make their way through the city’s historic streets, culminating in a
dramatic finale in front of the Abbey. -more-

(4-21-24). A new campaign is calling on
MPs to break the fossil fuel sector’s “chokehold” on politics in a critical
election year. Lawmakers returning to work on Monday were greeted with smoke
flares and a demand to “Stop Polluting Politics” from a banner hung off
London’s Westminster Bridge. The message forms the name of the campaign by Climate
Resistance, a new collective that aims “to push the fossil fuel lobby out
of Westminster and stop polluters from bankrolling political parties”. In
2019, the UK was the first country in the world to introduce legally
binding commitments to reach net zero emissions by 2050. -more-
