US Military Is Driving Environmental Collapse Across The Planet.”

By Sam Carliner, Left Voice. Popular Resistance.org (4-24-22). Summer 2021 has been an alarming season for climate news. Massive fires have raged from California to Europe; countries in the Global South have been hit by deadly droughts and historic winters; and on August 9, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a report confirming what many people already knew: the climate crisis is already here. For the past three years, leading climate scientists have argued that the global average temperature rise needs to remain below 1.5 degrees Celsius in order to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis.  -more-

IPCC report underscores Urgent need to ramp up Drawdown Solutions  .   https://drawdown.org/solutions  2021

Earlier this week, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a sobering report sharing the latest knowledge on climate change impacts, adaptation, and vulnerability. In the report’s own words, “The science is clear. Any further delay in concerted global action will miss a brief and rapidly closing window to secure a liveable future.”

With severe impacts already underway, it's critical we work NOW to minimize future harm and avoid change that exceeds our ability to adapt. What to do? Take a look at Project Drawdown’s 80-plus climate solutions; identify which you can help move forward at homein your community, or at work; and then take the first step. Engage a colleague or friend by sharing Climate Solutions 101 and Project Drawdown Dialogues and encouraging them to share with others. Explore opportunities at the intersection of climate change and critical issues such as human rights and biodiversity.

Commenting on the report’s findings, UN secretary general Antonio Guterres noted, “It is essential to meet the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees.” Together, we can achieve this daunting but critical goal.  OMNI Weekly Bulletin.

“UN Report warns disasters increasing around the world.”
Risk Reductions urgently needed.    UN WIRE (4-27-22).

Natural disasters are set to increase from the average 90 to 100 seen annually between 1970 and 2000 to approximately 560 annually by 2030 if current trends continue, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction warns. Widespread investments in risk reduction across all sectors is the only way to protect vulnerable populations while safeguarding global social and economic progress, says UNDRR head Mami Mizutori.
